4-in-1 smart hub with Matter bridge, IR blaster, temperature/humidity sensor, and light sensor.
You are building a SwitchBot-based smart home
Central hub for all SwitchBot Bluetooth devices. Enables remote control and cloud features for Bots, Meters, Locks, Curtains, and more.
You want temperature, humidity, and light monitoring
Built-in thermo-hygrometer and light sensor. Create automations based on environmental conditions. Display shows current readings.
You want to control IR appliances (TV, AC) via smart home
Built-in IR blaster with 2x range of Hub Mini. Control any IR device through Alexa, Google, or HomeKit. Smart learning for custom remotes.
You want to add HomeKit support to SwitchBot devices
Matter bridge enables HomeKit, Google Home, and SmartThings control for SwitchBot Lock, Curtain, and Blind Tilt products.
You have a WiFi 6 router or IPv6-only network
Hub 2 does not support WiFi 6 or IPv6 networks. Only works with 2.4GHz 802.11b/g/n (IPv4). Major limitation for newer setups.
You want to control many devices simultaneously
Hub times out when sending commands to multiple devices at once (e.g., "close all 5 curtains"). Only 1-2 devices respond reliably.
You prioritize local-only control without cloud
Requires internet for most functions. Commands go through SwitchBot cloud. Only limited IR control works offline via Bluetooth.
Max 8 sub-devices can sync to Apple Home via Matter. Need HomePod/Apple TV as home hub on same network.
SwitchBot SupportDoes not expose devices by default over Matter - requires reset during pairing. Home Assistant Matter integration unreliable.
GitHub/ForumsIR control not available through native integration. Only temperature/humidity sensors visible. Workarounds needed for full control.
Hubitat CommunityTemperature/humidity readings can differ 3% from other SwitchBot Meters. Sensor accuracy varies by unit.
User ReviewsUSB-C port is narrow - only specific cables fit (effectively proprietary)
widespreadCause: Design choice - temperature sensor is in the cable, not hub body
Commands to multiple devices at once fail - only 1-2 respond
commonCause: Hub timeout when processing multiple simultaneous Bluetooth commands
WiFi disconnections requiring hub reset (improved with firmware updates)
occasionalCause: Early firmware bugs - mostly resolved in later versions
Limited Matter device support - only Lock, Curtain, Blind Tilt
widespreadCause: SwitchBot gradually adding Matter support - not all devices compatible yet
App data download failures and slow performance
occasionalCause: Cloud service reliability issues and app optimization problems
Trying to set up on 5GHz WiFi or WiFi 6 router
Hub fails to find router or keeps failing network connection
Tip: Disable 5GHz and use 2.4GHz only during setup. IPv6 and WiFi 6 not supported. May need to create separate 2.4GHz SSID.
Not pointing IR remote directly at hub during learning
IR commands not learned or work inconsistently
Tip: Point remote directly at Hub 2 IR receiver. Remove obstructions. Try multiple times if first attempt fails.
Using third-party USB-C cable instead of included cable
Temperature/humidity sensors do not work - sensor is built into the cable
Tip: Must use included proprietary USB-C cable. The narrow port design prevents most third-party cables from fitting.
All app control, remote access, automations, voice assistant integration, firmware updates. Commands route through SwitchBot cloud servers.
Limited IR control within Bluetooth range (~5 AC remotes cached locally). Physical touch buttons on hub for preset scenes. Basic operation continues.
Temperature, humidity, device usage patterns, automation history, account information
All commands route through cloud even on local network. For privacy-focused users, consider newer SwitchBot AI Hub with local API support.
Tested with up to 8 devices
Via Matter: max 8 sub-devices in Apple Home (or 6 devices + Hub temp/humidity). Grouping allows up to 32 Blind Tilt devices by putting 4 in one group. IR remotes: ~5 AC units or ~100 TV remotes offline.
Commands to multiple devices simultaneously cause timeouts - only 1-2 devices respond reliably. Bluetooth range limits device connectivity. One Hub 2 per home is typical.
SwitchBot Hub Mini
If: Want basic IR control at lower price without sensors
Broadlink RM4 Pro
If: Want better Home Assistant integration or RF control
SwitchBot AI Hub
If: Need local API, MQTT, or better privacy
You have SwitchBot Lock/Curtain and want HomeKit control
Only way to get SwitchBot devices into HomeKit via Matter. Worth $70 if HomeKit integration is important to you.
You just want basic IR remote control
Hub Mini at $30 does the same IR control. Hub 2 sensors and Matter not worth extra $40 for IR only.
You want to control old AC and TV units via smart home
Excellent IR blaster with 2x range. Smart learning works well. Built-in sensors enable temperature-based automation.
You need local-only control for privacy
Most functions require cloud. Consider SwitchBot AI Hub or Broadlink with Home Assistant for true local control.
Hub 2 adds: Matter support (HomeKit), built-in temp/humidity/light sensors, 2x IR range, touch buttons, LED display. Hub Mini is cheaper but IR-only with no sensors.
Source: SwitchBot BlogVery limited. About 5 AC remotes can be cached for offline Bluetooth control. Most features require internet. Hub itself needs WiFi to function as a hub.
Source: SwitchBot Help CenterNo. Hub 2 only supports 2.4GHz 802.11b/g/n networks with IPv4. WiFi 6 and IPv6 are not supported. You may need to create a separate 2.4GHz network.
Source: SwitchBot SupportThe temperature and humidity sensor is built into the cable, not the hub. This is for accuracy but means you must use the included cable - third-party cables will not fit or work properly.
Source: Product ReviewsYes, via Matter. It bridges SwitchBot Lock, Curtain, and Blind Tilt to HomeKit. Maximum 8 sub-devices can be synced to Apple Home. Requires HomePod or Apple TV as home hub.
